Tarot card for this week – The 7 of Swords

The 7 of Swords is a card about betrayal, deceit, cheating, dishonesty, taking more of something than you should.

This weeks Tarot card is the 7 of Swords (20th – 26th July 2020)

The 7 of Swords is a card about betrayal, deceit, cheating, dishonesty, taking more of something or more from someone than you should.

In the Rider Waite Tarot deck the 7 of swords is depicted as a man running away with the swords and looking over his shoulder as he does so, to make sure he hasn’t been seen. My nickname for the card in Rider Waite is the “sneak thief”.

When the 7 of swords appears in a reading we are reminded to take note of someone who is taking advantage of us or of a situation. This could be in various ways including money, our time or our love for example. It could be someone close to us a partner, one of our children, one of our family, a neighbour or a boss.

The Tarot tells the story of life’s journey and all the cards in the deck have a story to tell, how we read that message can be in a positive or negative way, just as we do with the situations and circumstances we face in life.

The Tarot is a guide to help us on that journey.

So it is with the 7 of Swords, it warns us of a person who is being or acting in a deceitful way, taking advantage of you or a situation around you. Maybe even keeping secrets that will be to their advantage to do so. But they are not doing it in a brazen open way, more in a cunning, strategic way, they know full well what they doing.

So far we have looked at the negative side of the message the 7 of Swords gives us, but as I said, the message from Tarot is all about the way we interpret the message. Because the person in your life the 7 of Swords warns of could be you!

You may well be the one who is deceiving themselves, not being honest with yourself. You could be the one taking an advantage of someone or a situation to benefit yourself.

For me from a spiritual and intuitive perspective (which is the way I read the cards) the underlying message of the 7 of Swords is one of honesty, both with ourselves and others. Being truthful, being grateful for what we have and the people we have in our lives and not taking advantage of them, what they have or what they offer, whether it be materialistically or emotionally.

For the week ahead

I will start this week with the words I always say, because this weeks card really does ask it of us, to be honest with ourselves.

So take some time out for yourself! It is allowed!

And as you take that time out take careful note of the people around you. Partners, Family, Children, Neighbours, Work Colleagues, your Boss, to name but a few.

Are any of these people taking advantage of you? Is there anyone who is like a “Sheep in Wolf’s Clothing” as the saying goes? Pretending to be someone or something that they are not.

Is there anyone who is taking advantage of you financially or emotionally? or even physically, taking precious time from you that you need for yourself.

Is there someone playing on your emotions to get you to give them what they want?

Or…. You may well be the one who is deceiving yourself!

Remember what I said? “The 7 of Swords is one of honesty, both with ourselves and others”.

You see any of the above may well be happening to you and is probably the case for a lot of people. Because very often we know that these things are happening in our life, because that is life!

BUT this is one way in which WE become the 7 of Swords ourselves. WE are the ones who are deceiving ourselves. WE are not being truthful with ourselves. WE are not acknowledging the true reality in which we are living at this moment in time.

But there is one thing you cannot truly deceive and that is you heart or your inner spirit for they know and will always know the real truth. And it is that reality at some stage we have no choice but to acknowledge.

Until next time…. please take care and stay safe.
